SoundArt HOT — Berlin, est. 2014

Sound environments,
composed and installed permanently.

A studio of 24 sound artists, engineers, and installers shaping permanent sonic environments for hotels, museums, and other buildings where silence has a sound.

§ 01

On the studio

We compose, sculpt, and install permanent sound artworks that turn architecture into a listening experience. Each commission begins as a question posed to the building itself — its proportions, its materials, the way its visitors will arrive and depart — and ends as a calibrated sonic environment that outlasts the season of any single guest.

SoundArt HOT delivers museum-grade sonic environments end to end: original composition in our Berlin studio, hardware specification, on-site installation, and a five-year acoustic maintenance contract. The studio was founded in 2014 by composer and sound designer Lena Marković, formerly of IRCAM, Paris.

The four movements of a commission

From first sketch to fifth-year re-calibration, every engagement follows the same four-part discipline.

  1. I.

    Concept

A site visit, a room-by-room acoustic survey, and a written sonic brief drafted with the architect and the curator. We listen to the building before we compose for it.

  2. II.

    Composition

Original work produced in our Berlin studio, scored for the specific volume, surface, and use-pattern of each space. Catalogue of 600+ original works licensed exclusively for commissioned projects.

  3. III.

    Hardware

Bespoke driver specification, concealed cabinetry, and patented SpatialHarmony™ calibration engine. Audio paths are designed to disappear into the architecture.

  4. IV.

    Calibration

On-site tuning across 64 channels of Ambisonic reference, followed by a five-year acoustic maintenance contract. Average on-site calibration delivers a 4.2 dB improvement in perceived ambience.

“A building has its own temperature. Our work is to listen for it, and then to compose a sound that the building seems to have been waiting for.”
